The date of this writing is July 2015.
The trend that came about over a year ago is holding strong today – large, full screen photo, slideshow, or video at top of page. No matter what it has at the top, it’s large.
What follows on the homepage is often a grid-style layout, pinboard style layout, a post feed, or just a one-page scrolling content sections. And the sites are responsive to fit any size screen / device. In other words, they are mobile-friendly.
Unlike a fad, a trend is more of a permanent change, and this design trend is the most popular (as evidenced by the growing and continued number of large imagery at the top of websites).
My own attraction to these types of design elements is that websites appear larger than life. The imagery is stunning and captivating and that is why more and more celebrities are following suit.
So here are my favorite celebrity websites (although many of them may have already changed their design if you’re reading this months or even years later!) …
Click on their name to view the site (opens in new window).
Alexandra’s site uses a fixed large B&W photo background image of her followed with scrolling content. The navigation is on the left side with social media icons after. Very simple, very clean, quite beautiful.
Once this page loads, you’re looking at quite a masterpiece. The larger-than-life photo slideshow consumes the whole window, proceeded by a combination of fancy pinboard style images that scroll, and eye-catching content – all as you scroll almost endlessly on the page.
This is a very simple, yet professional looking homepage with a responsive photo slideshow at the top of the page. The content on this page is a 3-column brief however it is not responsive.
Like, wow. I didn’t expect anything less of Cher than to have to keep scrolling down the page as we view the rest of her standing body. When you finally get to the end, it’s a one row pinboard of stunning photos that navigate to other parts of the site. Spectacular design.
Doug’s site has a full screen video when you land there, but you have to wait for it! At first I just thought it was a giant photo until I started scrolling down this one-page content layout and began hearing him speak. Anyway, the page is a mixture of one row sectioned content and grid-style content. Overall, it’s completely awesome.
Similar to the style of Catherine Bell’s site, Heather’s homepage shows a beautiful large photo at the top bt followed with an animated 3-box slider under it. Nothing more, nothing less.
Arriving at Jenna’s site took my breath away with the beautiful B&W photo that filled the window screen. But, unlike the other celebrity sites I saw, hers was more of a magazine style layout. It was a very nice layout, yet un-cluttered considering it was very rich in content on the homepage.
This superstar’s site comes with a superstar design. The stunning photo of Jennifer at the top of the homepage is full screen succeeded by a pinboard style layout containing a multitude of beautiful images.
John’s well-constructed site has some unusual design elements that you don’t see often. I thought the large B&W photo at the top was a slider but when I clicked on the arrow, a small video appeared on the right of the screen (with him playing the blues). And then I wondered where the content was since I couldn’t scroll down the page, but I found an icon at the top right corner and clicked on it which displayed the navigation. There’s some very clever stuff going on with this site indeed.
Okay, although there are no other pages than the homepage for Julianne’s site, the full screen photo of her is beautiful enough to make it one of my favorites.
What you see here is what you get! Juliette’s homepage is filled with a large fixed photo background with a little tour date content over an almost transparent background to the left. What can I say, I like it!
With a large photo slider at the top that takes all the window real estate, you won’t be disappointed with the imagery of Justin’s site. And under that is a one row pinboard. Beautiful, simply beautiful.
Man, I don’t know how they did this site, but I’d sure like to know! The custom design elements on this homepage are nothing short of spectacular! I’m not even sure I can explain it, so you’ll just have to go check it out yourself!
Kelly’s site presents a full-sized large photo at the top with a grid-style layout after which scrolls with content almost forever. This gal has a lot going on and it’s all shared on her site!
Very clean simple homepage with a full-screen photo slider and top navigation to get to the site’s content.
Beautiful photos display Kelly in the top slider followed with a one row, 3-column content sections. Simple and sweet.
Kristen’s site may not have a full-screen photo of her, but the site is still very cool for today’s web standards.
There’s some fabulous imagery on Kylie’s site, starting with her full-screen photo slider at the top. Scrolling down from there is a pinboard style layout with even more great imagery.
Another superstar with a superstar site! As you start to scroll, the pinboard style content rises into view with lots of great images leading to content on her site. Quite marvelous.
I don’t know about you, but when I get to Michelle’s site and the music starts to roll out her singing Radiohead’s song “Creep”, I couldn’t leave the site! Anyway, the homepage is very nice with her name in large print and a polaroid photo over a bed of flowers in full screen.
Nancy spared no amount of time in having her site look fabulous. The top slider fills the screen with large images and photos, then the content rolls up as you scroll through the page. Good stuff.
Nicole’s homepage is a full-screen B&W photo with a video overlay. The site is quite pleasing to the eye, without a doubt.
Something different here – a full-screen view with content to the left and photo to the right. And when you start to scroll down the page, bang! A video consumes the screen, then more happens as you continue down the page. It just keeps getting better and better.
For such a beautiful woman, I was personally a bit surprised by the photo choice that sits full screen. Not ugly in any way (how can she be?), but it captures another side of her that can only be respected and admired once they see what her page is all about.
At this time, my sighting of Shelby’s homepage shows a full-screen music video. With that, she didn’t need anything else on her homepage!
In typical Stallone fashion, his site is rough and tough … in an awesome site design way! With a full-width photo and a little content. it’s all his homepage needed.
Obviously, Will didn’t really want a website, but it’s nice he had one put up anyway – showing just a full-screen B&W photo and a link to his Facebook page. I guess that’s where the action is.
… that don’t necessarily fit with the popular web design trend, but worthy to show you for their nice design.
Personally, I’m not crazy about the colors on Anne’s site, but the layout is simple and quite nice. Her homepage has a big photo slideshow at the top followed by 2 columns of content. What’s there not to like about it, really?
I couldn’t find a site for Julie that highlighted her as an actress, but I did find one that featured her as a singer, and it’s a very attractive design.
Laura’s homepage is a 2-column blog layout and post feed with a large photo header at the top. She’s kept it simple yet hasn’t seemed to post anything new since late February (at this time of writing).
The montage of photos on Nicole’s homepage are great, but this gal would do better to have full-screen images of her. Just sayin.
This man can’t have an ugly site – he’s too darn gorgeous! So, of course, any photos of him on a page makes the design of the site look great.
Tom’s site has large interchanging photos to the right and a small scale slider at the top. Although it isn’t exactly the “in your face” design trend, it is still a top gun site.
That’s a wrap!
Well, that’s about it for now. It’s amazing how so many top celebrities don’t even have a website, which is probably why you don’t see them in my list above.
Anyway, I may add more to this article as I come across other celebrity sites that have gone with the popular web design trend of today. But for now, I’ve got to call it quits!
Feel free to comment and let us know of any other celebrity web site sightings you come across!
